Clooney Quin U10s win Ballinasloe Hurling Tournament
Our U10 boys travelled to Ballinasloe on Saturday last (Sept 30th) to take part in a hurling tournament. The tournament provided a competition for U10 boys (born 2007) and a competition for U9 boys (born 2008).
The other teams participating were the hosts, Ballinasloe, Kilconieron (close to Athenry, Co. Galway) and Kildangan (Tipperary).
Both our teams played 3 group games with the results deciding the placings for A and B finals.
Our U9 team played very well, narrowly losing group games to the hosts and Kilconieron. Our lads came good in the final, producing their best performance of the day to beat Kildangan by 1 point. Goals from Mark McGrath and Donnchadh McMahon proving decisive.
U9 squad: Donnchadh O’Donovan, Donnchadh McMahon, Mark McGrath, Ben O’Halloran, Rory McGowan, Kevin McCarthy, Darragh Browne, Michael Hannon, Daniel Gardiner, Oisin Harrington, JJ Clune, Mark Hartigan and Dermot O’Halloran.
Our U10 team started slowly and drew their first two matches against Ballinasloe and Kildangan. Their third match was a high tempo affair with little separating the teams. Clooney Quin lead for most of the match but a goal late on pushed the Kilconieron boys in front. With just about enough time for one last play our boys worked the ball down the field where Damien Guilfoyle finished to the net to win the game.
The A final against Kildangan proved to be another competitive match but this time the Clooney Quin boys established and early lead which they never relinquished. All over the field the Clooney Quin boys played with great heart and determination and significant skill to finish victors by 6 point.
U10 squad: James Brooks, David Cahill, Donnacha Cantwell, Lochlain Carey, Sean Cassidy, Conor Clancy, Mathew Corbett, Conan Fennell, Patrick Finneran, Damien Guilfoyle, Michael Hassett, Cathal Leamy, Conor McFadden, Sean McNamara, Daire McNamara, Mathew Murphy, Jerry O’Connor and Tadgh O’Keefe.
