ClooneyQuin U12s played their hurling finals in Cusack Park on Wednesday evening (Aug 1st).
First up, our Green team played against Clonlara team 2. Clonlara opened well and after the exchange of early points, Clonlara pressure resulted in 2 goals for the south Clare team. Our boys rallied well to finish the first half stronger but still went to the break behind by 5 points. The second half brought a change in gears from the Green team. Excellent defending restricted Clonlara to just 4 points in the 2nd half and the attack exploded to score 3 goals and 8 points – an excellent return for 20 minutes against a good team.
Next up, our Red team faced Wolf Tones na Sionna. Again there was an early exchange of points before Wolf Tones posted a goal and three points in a dominant 10 minute spell. The Red team fought their way back into the game finishing the half strongly with points from PJ McCarthy and Cormac Hale. The second half continued as the first had ended with Clooney Quin applying pressure on the Wolf Tones goal and slowly but surely closing the gap. Wolf Tones recovered their composure in the last quarter and some late scores secured their lead in a match that both sides agreed was very even and played in excellent spirit.
It has been a good season for our U12s with 38 players participating in 23 matches. Our teams tasted defeat in just 7 matches of that total. The coaching team have been delighted with the commitment of the players and their excellent attitude throughout. Well done to all the players.
