Kilrush Ladies GFC hosted an Under 10 blitz on Sunday morning last (28.08.16) at their grounds, the Cricket Field, on the Killimer Road in Kilrush.
Twenty enthusiastic girls from Clooney Quin Ladies football club travelled back west on this fine morning to display their talents.
Two Clooney teams, Reds and the Greens, were assembled to play teams from Fergus Rovers, Burren Gaels and Kilrush (Lions and Tigers).
The C/Q Reds played a strong Burren Gaels team in their first match while the Greens were up against the Lions of Kilrush. Both teams performed admirably with strong displays in both teams defences.
The next game played by the Reds was against the Kilrush Tigers while the Greens played Shannon Gaels. There was an accomplished performance by the Greens against the Gaels while the Reds went toe to toe with the fierce Lions. By the time the last game came around both teams were well warmed up with the Greens geed up for the battle against the Lions of Kilrush. A very strong team performance in the first half could not be matched in the second half by the Greens however again strong Clooney displays were noted nonetheless during this performance. The Reds played the Tigers and they roared to success with massive all round performances by all Clooney players.
The games were played in a fantastic, sporting manner and great credit to the parents for being able to have the players in Kilrush for the early start back West. Of course the highlight for the players (and parents) was the Après-match in the Shams clubhouse with a snacks, treats, chocolate and drinks in great abundance. Huge thanks to the Kilrush club for such a well run blitz, with a fantastic show of hospitality. Looking forward already to our next trip back west.
