The Clooney Quin Gaa club has been on an amazing journey since the senior hurlers qualified for the senior hurling final for the first time in seventy three years so there was cause for excitement throughout the parish. On day one of the county final against much favoured Sixmilebridge the team came to Cusack Park empowered ready to do battle and that they did but there was no winner on that day and it had to be repeated all over again one week later. There was one change to the team from the previous week with Tadhg Shannahan starting for Daire Hannon. It was Sixmilebridge that seemed to get the better start this week and Clooney Quin trailed by two points at the half way mark. Sixmilebridge pushed on in the second half but the Clooney Quin side never gave up. Mikey Corry hit the back of the net to bring them within six points in extra time. Daire came on for Tadhg in the second half and David Kennedy replaced injured Donnacha Murphy. When the inevitable final whistle blew the Clooney Quin dream was dashed but the team and mentors can be very proud of what they have achieved this year. They pushed on from their Senior B title last year to Senior County finalists this year which in itself exemplifies the hard work, commitment and determination demonstrated by this tight group of players and mentors. Well done to the team, mentors and all the back room staff for an amazing 2017 season and we will see you center stage again next year for the 2018 championship campaign.
