The  Senior hurlers locked horns with neighbours, Crusheen in the County Championship Quarter-final in Cusack Park on Saturday afternoon last. The stakes were high, but both sides set about the game with great gusto. The big break of the game came the way of the Crusheen lads mid-way through the first half when they goaled. From there to the break, the more experienced Crusheen team held the advantage. On the resumption, the Clooney/Quin side had to dig-in and try get back in the game, but it was Crusheen who pushed their lead out further. But, slowly and surely, the Clooney/Quin lads found their shooting boots and got themselves right back into the match, as the clock counted down to the final whistle. A determined finish saw Peter Duggan goal from a penalty, to reduce the arrears to a single goal, but the experienced gained in winning two County championships saw the Crusheen side over the line at the final whistle. The Clooney/Quin side fought to the death, but came up short in the end. When they review the season, they will look back on a year where they made huge strides forward, and can look forward to next season with great confidence. Well done to the players and Management for a terrific effort this year!
Later on Saturday afternoon, the Junior “B” hurlers turned in a superb performance to secure a five point win over Cratloe, to qualify for the Quarter-final of the Competition.
