Clooney/Quin Ladies football team did the club proud this weekend when they played in the Junior league final in their first season of adult football in a number of years. Great credit is due to the girls on a fine performance against Coolmeen. The end score (Coolmeen 3-11; Clooney/Quin 2-5) which does not reflect the effort put in or the actual closeness of the match. Clooney missed several chances in the first half but still went into half time only one point down thanks to two great goals from Noelle McGuane and Louise Murrihy.
Indeed it was a fine first half performance from Clooney, given that it was a junior debut for a number of the younger players. Clooney were missing a number of players from key positions, but it was into the second half when their experience was really missed. Coolmeen scored two quick goals at the start of the second half and Clooney were unlucky at the other end of the field to hit the crossbar and upright to be denied goals and had a penalty saved in the final minutes. Clooney are now looking forward to the 11-a-side league competition which starts in June and the Junior Championship thereafter.
