Saturday June 13th 2015 saw the Clooney Quin U14 camogie team head off on a bus trip to Duniry Co Galway to take on the Davitts Club u14 girls in a challenge match. This Duniry team played in Div B in their county u14 championship and were only beaten by I point in the cup final. A beautiful sunny warm day, a pitch in pristine condition and a very welcoming Duniry management greeted us on arrival to Davitts Club. The meeting of 2 well matched teams show cased the emerging skill, determination, excellent team play and unrelenting work rate of both sides. Despite some excellent scores from Clooney and some stylish play the home team won the well fought battle. The Clooney Quin team each received a goodie bag and a lovely lunch was provided by the club after the game. Davitts plan to visit Clooney once their summer league is finished.
After lunch we travelled onto Portumna Forest Park for a fun game of soccer Clooney vs Quin…all fair playing rules were abandoned on the field as fun, camaraderie and freedom of expression won out. Some of the girls took to the nature trails and others to climbing trees. Dinner was an Italian affair in Romas restaurant in Portumna where the girls had a cake and candles for Caoimhe Leamy who celebrated her 13th birthday on the day. The life guards in Mountshannon and the Lough Derg swans did not know what hit them when 17 CQ mermaids took to the cold waters at 1800hrs on a quiet Saturday evening to cool down. Overall, an action packed, fun filled day that brought closure to a very enjoyable and busy 2015 u14 camogie season.
